Trash the Dress

For a long time I’ve wanted to attempt a Trash the Dress photo shoot. Trash the Dress is a modern style of photography that generally combines a only once worn wedding dress and a scene where a wedding dress would typically be out of place. The idea is that you get to wear your dress again and be creative doing it. I was really looking for some sexy, romantic, out of the box photographs to hang on my wall. Something that wasn’t your typical portrait. You can only have so many floating heads in a room.

Our shoot was a lot of fun. My business partner Nayeli was kind enough to offer us three hours of her time to give me a professional makeup application and photograph Tim and I being ourselves and having fun. She’s awesome. All photos are taken by Nayeli Castellanos of KARITAS and edited by yours truly. Below is our trip through the city.

Starting on the west side of the Detroit River we found some steps that made for a romantic location.

This worked out to be my favourite "Portrait", I think we both look pretty slick.

Props at the beach. You should know that it was actually raining at one point.

Without further ad ue; your traditional trash the dress shot - in the water, trashing the dress.

You’re all wondering… is the dress actually trashed?!? Well, the $2000 Anjolique gown looks like it may have survived its brush with Lake St. Clair. The water didn’t seem to do much too it, it was the sand that was a problem. There is still some sand caught in the lining but we’re hoping that the dry cleaner can rectify the problem.

So much fun though – if you or someone you know is interested in trashing your/their dress. Let us at KARITAS know, we’re the Windsor creative photographer specialists.
